Who we areWe are innovators, custom creators and impeccable craftsmen. We inspire an industry and continually follow through with comfortable furniture in fabrics and leathers that make a big impact on style and a small impact on the environment. And we’ve been doing that since the day we started.HistoryOur history is long and storied. Here’s a quick synopsis: In 1969, Bill and Dottie Coley set out to manufacture quality, American-made furniture that they would use in their own home. So they opened a 7500 square foot factory, hired 10 people and accomplished exactly what they set out to do -- and so very much more. LEE Industries was born. In 1972, Chic Robinson joined the team as executive vice president in charge of the financial, production and administrative functions and helped propel them to a new level. It has been the LEE mission to create innovatively styled, high-quality home furnishings while adhering to a set of values that focus on our customer, our community, and the environment. In doing this, we have committed ourselves to manufacture earth-friendly products, using sustainable processes by people who care about the environment. In 1984, LEE made a conscious effort to be as earth-friendly as possible, long before any other furniture manufacturer. We voluntarily chose to use products that eliminated the use of chlorofluorocarbon gases (CFC’S), which have been known to deplete the ozone layer. That was almost unheard of in the 80’s. Today, LEE Industries is still a family-owned business that employs more than 500 craftsmen in three plants in Newton, NC. We also continue to be the industry forerunner in custom style with a conscience.Leadership.LEE has always been a pioneer of innovative styling, fresh fabrics and environmentally conscious measures. In fact, in keeping with our longstanding commitment to nature, we were the first manufacturer to use soy based cushions in October 2006. This clear vision is a testament to LEE’s unwavering leadership: Chief Executive Officer and company founder, Bill Coley, an architect by profession, continues to design many of the frames created at LEE. Bill’s son, Norman Coley, is President. And Bill McKinney is Chief Financial Officer. Together they foster a team spirit that is the hallmark of LEE's success and continued growth. By building an innovatively styled, high quality product that is kind to the environment, LEE customers continue to come back time after time for all their custom furniture needs. |
